Infrared cabin & saunain Zurich
Infrared cabins are part of the standard repertoire of many longevity centres in Zurich – usually as a single cabin with 30 to 45 minutes of deep heat, often positioned as a “detox” application and frequently combined with the cryo chamber or red light. Unlike the classic Finnish sauna, infrared warms the body directly at a moderate air temperature, which many find more pleasant. Our comparison distinguishes infrared from classic sauna offerings and single from group cabins, and shows where the application is offered as part of a longevity protocol.

How Infrared / sauna works – and what the evidence says
Infrared radiation (mostly far infrared, sometimes combined with near and mid infrared) is absorbed by the body and converted into heat. Core temperature rises at air temperatures of 40 to 60 °C – much milder than the Finnish sauna at 80 to 100 °C.
Regular heat applications are associated in observational studies with lower cardiovascular mortality (mainly sauna studies from Finland); infrared-specific long-term data are thinner. Relaxation, improved circulation and subjective recovery are documented in the short term.
The term “detox” is marketing: sweating mainly excretes water and electrolytes; detoxification is done by the liver and kidneys.
Frequently asked questions about Infrared / sauna in Zurich
How much does an infrared cabin cost in Zurich?
A 30- to 45-minute session in a single cabin usually costs CHF 30 to 60 in Zurich. Many longevity centres offer combination cards that let you book infrared, cold and red light flexibly.
Infrared cabin or sauna – which is better for longevity?
The best long-term evidence comes from Finnish sauna studies with classic sauna. Infrared is milder, better tolerated by the heat-sensitive and easy to build into short recovery routines. Regularity matters more than the method.
How long and how often?
30 to 45 minutes at 40 to 60 °C, two to four times a week is usual. Drink plenty before and after.
Does the infrared cabin really detoxify?
Sweat consists mostly of water and electrolytes; excretion of pollutants via the skin is minimal. The liver and kidneys do the detoxifying. Infrared can promote relaxation and circulation – “detox” is a marketing term.
